Mission and Objectives
The Midwest Catholic Association of Hispanic Ministry (MWCAHM) is composed of directors and coordinators of Hispanic Ministry of the various archdioceses and dioceses within the Episcopal regions VI and VII. The Association also welcomes ministers from other diocesan agencies and other pastoral entities, e.g. Universities and Pastoral Institutes, who serve the pastoral needs of Hispanic Catholics within the Midwest Region.

Our objective as a Midwest Catholic Association is to promote the model of ministry known as "Pastoral de Conjunto" as it is outlined by the U.S. Bishop's National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic Ministry. We facilitate interaction between various pastoral ministers serving the Hispanic Catholic community throughout the Midwest and in each one of the five States this association represents. We also function as advocates for Hispanic ministry so that national structures of Hispanic pastoral ministry are able to listen to the voice and sentiments of Hispanic Catholics in the Midwest and at the same time keep all members informed about national guidelines and orientations proposed by the Bishops Conference.

The goals of the Association are:

  • To acquire a better knowledge of the realities Hispanic Catholics face in the U.S. and especially in the Midwest region of the nation.
  • To share and collaborate in the implementation and evaluation of the National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic Ministry.
  • To promote a truly Catholic formation that will help the community better respond to the challenges they face today.
  • To share human, financial and technical support that will assist pastoral agents serve the community.
  • To promote an understanding and appreciation of Hispanic ministry at all levels of Church life.
  • To foster the growth of a model of Church that is missionary, communitarian (not congregational), evangelistic, deeply incarnated in the reality of Hispanics and has a preferential option for the poor.
  • To collaborate with State Catholic Conferences.
  • To be a united voice in the Midwest.
  • To maintain collaboration and communication with the Hispanic Ministry throughout the U.S.
